Up until 1954, no person ever managed to run a mile under 4 minutes. This seemed beyond the human limit. Doctors and scientists believed man kind had reached a record that could not be broken. Until Roger Bannister came along.

He claimed it was possible and trained as hard as all the other competitors. He too was stuck at times slightly over four minutes, until finally on the 6th of May, 1954 he sensationally ran four miles in 3.59 minutes.

johnlandyWhat was even more remarkable was that 6 weeks later John Landy ran the same distance in 3.57 minutes. The following year 37 runners succeeded to run a mile under four minutes. And in 1956 over 300 runners succeeded to break the four minute mark.

Roger Bannister showed how we can break mental barriers through our beliefs, and that our beliefs in fact create self fulfilling prophecies. With this in mind, I would like to challenge you to think about beliefs that are holding you back in an important area of your life, and consider whether you are imposing a self inflicted cap?
